Marketplaces Advisory

EBay Classifieds Integrates With the Mother Ship
Peter Krasilovsky , 5/28/2010

Summary: Many of the concepts for modern Marketplaces came from the success of eBay’s auction system. But eBay has not done as well with classifieds, as it has tried to expand its reach. To be sure, eBay has acquired or developed a horde of classified companies around the world, and now reaches 81 million unique visitors with them. But it doesn’t have anything approaching the breakout status of a Craigslist in the United States. Now the innovators at eBay are at it again. For the first time, part of their solution is to integrate with the eBay mother ship itself, leaning on its API, technology, marketing, traffic and best practices.
